Seth Kamabu (he/they)

Seth is a Black, transmasculine, queer person born in Kenya and raised on Treaty 1 territory. Like many of his racialized peers, Seth’s life has been shaped by migration as his mother immigrated to Turtle Island in search of greater economic opportunity, a journey that later became integral to Seth’s ability to access gender-affirming care. Since beginning their social and medical transition, Seth has worked closely with gender- and sexually diverse communities across Manitoba in community-based settings, with a particular focus on supporting racialized individuals and youth. Guided by mentors, teachers, coaches, community Elders, and leaders who came before him, Seth is deeply grateful for the doors opened for them and is committed to increasing visibility in queer spaces where racial and ethnic representation is often lacking. Seth holds a master’s degree in social work and provides counselling services dedicated to serving 2STLGBQIA+ communities, with an emphasis on racialized youth. His work is grounded in safety, autonomy, cultural humility, education, and strengths-based approaches. Seth takes pride in supporting his community in ways that affirm identity, honour lived experience and expand access to medically necessary care and meaningful social support.
