Our Story
The Nia Initiative was not created in a boardroom.
It was shaped through lived experience, through navigating systems that were never designed with us in mind, and through a quiet but persistent question:
What would it look like if these systems were built differently?
As African women, we have moved through institutions that were meant to support, but often required us to explain ourselves, translate our realities, and fit into spaces that did not fully see us.
We have seen the gaps.
We have felt the weight of them.
And we have witnessed the strength, brilliance, and leadership that exists within our communities, often overlooked, often underutilized.
The Nia Initiative was created from that place.
Not from the assumption that communities need to be fixed, but from the belief that systems need to be reimagined.
Together, we are building something different.
Something grounded in care.
Something led by community.
Something that recognizes that those closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions.
At its core, The Nia Initiative is about one thing:
Ensuring that African women and gender-diverse Africans are not only supported, but positioned to lead, influence, and shape the systems that impact their lives.
